On the Water
On the water in connecticut
A finger of land reaches out into the tidal waters of the Long Island Sound, where a bold, new home, pool and garden are sited. Incredible views from inside and outside the house, the smell of the sea and the sounds of the water gently lapping nearby make this a very special, waterfront home. Given the home’s required elevations, it was important to ground it in the landscape. Architectural axes and lines from the home are carried through into the landscape, via walls, patios and paths, stitching the home and the outdoor spaces together. Plantings also ground the home and surround a variety of seating areas, designed around the pool and home. Extensive planning and approvals were required to meet flood zone and impervious surface requirements, as well as maximizing the native planting palette in the new planting plan.
